So, last night I was at band practice. We were quickly running through some of the Christmas music for our first concert on the 13th. I was using the Yamaha 11 mouthpiece I mentioned in a previous post with my silver Olds Ambassador trumpet. Strangely, my lip got really tired way early in the practice, long before I expected it to. On a whim, I switched to my generic 3C mouthpiece, and quickly found new life and endurance. My tonal quality came back substantially also. Continue reading “Volume 5 – The Trumpet Chronicles”

Volume 4 – The Trumpet Chronicles
Yesterday, I started the down-sizing of my instrument collection. It was a traumatic time, but I managed to get through it.
I have several horns and mouthpieces out on eBay at the moment:
Rare Reynolds 4 Alto / Tenor Horn Mouthpiece
Getzen DEG Plastic Cup French Horn Mouthpiece
Getzen 300 Alto Marching Trumpet Eb / F Frumpet
I encourage you to take advantage of these opportunities if they interest you!
Volume 3 – The Trumpet Chronicles
Since buying a couple of Ambassadors, I have become intrigued by the Olds trumpets; their history, the different models, and what the differences are between them. Continue reading “Volume 3 – The Trumpet Chronicles”
Volume 2 – The Trumpet Chronicles
I ordered and received a Yamaha 11 Japan mouthpiece this week. Depending on who you read online, it’s either like a Shilke 11 (R. Shilke consulted for Yamaha in the 60s) or a Bach 7C. One site even said it was somewhere between a Bach 3C and 5C.
I don’t know. I’m a woodwind guy, remember? Continue reading “Volume 2 – The Trumpet Chronicles”
Volume 1 – The Trumpet Chronicles
(I’m starting a new series today, called “The Trumpet Chronicles”, about my come-back journey through the world of trumpets and mouthpieces, through the eyes of a former woodwind guy. Enjoy(?), or ignore.)
I had a little time tonight, so I played around with the 3 different trumpets I now have, and with a couple of different mouthpieces. Continue reading “Volume 1 – The Trumpet Chronicles”
Preface – The Trumpet Chronicles
It’s been a long, interesting (to me, anyway) journey from being a grade-school violin player to a high school flutist to a college bari-sax player to a trumpeter in a community band. So recline that easy chair, and “listen to a story ’bout a man named Jed….” er.. Charlie um.. Mike. Continue reading “Preface – The Trumpet Chronicles”
The Tyler Mire Big Band – “Movin’ Day”
Hey there. This is the first in what I hope is a continuing series of articles about new big bands that I discover as I listen to music on Spotify.
This edition features a group I just found this week… The Tyler Mire Big Band, based out of Nashville (yes, really), Tennessee.
This is a big band that you should hear. Continue reading “The Tyler Mire Big Band – “Movin’ Day””
Check out JR Miller’s High Note Reviews
We just finished the major part of the work on a new customer’s website. He’s JR Miller and he does the High Note Reviews. His site is a place you can go for reviews of music and other music news. He also happens to be a high school buddy of mine. Check it out!
New Kentucky church and website
Cold Nose Consulting has just completed the website for a new church which started in the Erlanger, KY area on September 7, 2014.
The Cornerstone Baptist Church is pastored by Bobby Brown, a 2013 graduate of the Commonwealth Baptist College in Lexington, KY. The church is also on Facebook and Twitter.
The Cornerstone Baptist Church is an outreach of the Clays Mill Road Baptist Church in Lexington.
Check out the respective links above for more information about the churches or the college.
It’s been a while…
… since there were any great amount of postings on here.
The problem is that I think I have too many websites. Is that possible?
